Trivia for FACE
- Animated over the course of 4 weeks with 3 hours of animating a day.
- Cosists of over 3,000 hand drawn frames.
- The name of the main character is Kao. Kao is the Japanese word for face.
- The illusion that the lights went out was changing from clear leader to black leader and etching the image into the black leader.
- Koa's design was made so that it could be expressive, but could be drawn very small and thousands of times.
- Animated at 18 frames a second instead of the stardard 24 frames a second.
- Koa design was modeled as a mix of Tim Burton and Johnen Vasquez.
- Animated in completly the wrong way in which the image was drawn on the actual film instead of the image being drawn onto paper or an animation cell and then being photographed onto film later.
- The specks that randomly appear throughout the first half of the movie are dirt. The actual roll of film can never be cleaned for risk wiping off the actual animation.
- Kao floating around when the lights go out was a welcomed accident. Since the leader was black I had no reference point of where the middle of the frame was so the image would tend to drift around the frame when I drew it.
- When the movie was going to be released on myspace.com, I decided to hype the film up with a trailer that is nothing like the finished film. I used 3D text and dramtic music to make it appear that FACE was going to be really cool movie with lots of action. I thought it would be funny to play a joke on everyone by making the trailer really awsome for a movie where basically nothing happens for 2 minutes. After the film was shown on myspace I was sent angry messeges from people who were vastly disappointed by the finished film and said that the trailer was way better than the actual movie.
